What the result means
The result shows whether the copy in your hand matches the document in our records.
If the contents changed after the document was produced, the match breaks; a "valid" answer means the copy in your hand is the one that was produced.
When a new revision is produced, the old one is not updated on its own — the paper on the wall did not update either. An old revision's code returns "superseded", and we also show which revision is in force.
We do not call something invalid when we merely do not know. A document that could not be compared gets its own answer and we say so plainly.
What is in it, and what is not
