Quality management system

ISO 9001 — quality management system

It asks for a process order that meets customer and statutory requirements. It shares the same high-level structure as the safety and environmental standards, so the three can be run together.

What it asks for

The process approach sits at its centre: the work is written as processes that feed each other, and each process gets an owner, criteria and risks. Context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement are shared with the safety and environmental standards.

  • Process mapProcesses are defined with their inputs, outputs, owner and criteria.
  • Risk-based thinkingRisks and opportunities are determined per process; a separate risk procedure is not required, but a record of the decision is.
  • CompetenceThe competence of anyone doing work that affects quality is defined, provided and evidenced.
  • Non-conformity and corrective actionNon-conformities are recorded, root causes sought and actions verified.
  • Internal audit and reviewPlanned internal audits are carried out and feed the management review.

What is shared are the top clauses; sub-clauses and technical requirements differ per standard. "One procedure closed all three" cannot be said.
