How often
For this equipment family the inspection interval is one year unless the relevant standards set a different period. Where a standard sets a shorter interval, the shorter one applies; where the manufacturer's instruction requires more frequent checks, that is followed. The validity of an inspection depends less on its interval than on what the report contains.
One inspection, two sides
The electrical installation and the earthing installation are assessed together. Beyond measurement, conformity with the design and with actual conditions of use is questioned: panel labelling, the presence and function of residual current protection, the match between conductor size and protective device, and the protection class in damp or dusty areas.
An installation that changed
Most non-conformities arise from lines added over the years: a socket circuit pulled later, a fuse added to the panel, an extension left in place temporarily. The gap between the inspection report and the installation on site matters more than the report's date.
If a non-conformity is found
An inspection is not complete until every non-conformity in the report becomes a job. A non-conformity left open meets you again as the same line at the next inspection.
