The record is the foundation
An accident not recorded, or recorded incompletely, makes every later claim harder. Notification and recording are therefore as much the ground of the worker's protection as they are the employer's duty.
Accuracy of documents
Writing the moment of the event, the witnesses and the first response accurately is hard to correct later. A record written wrongly or incompletely turns months later into an argument nobody can recall.
The health side
Treatment and follow-up run together with the workplace's health surveillance records. On return to work, fitness is reassessed; going back to the old role is not automatic.

What is described here is how the record and the process run. The legal consequence of an event varies with the person and the event; that assessment belongs to the bodies that examine and decide it.
