Workstation ergonomics
A module is planned that records a workplace by checklist: the position of the screen, the adjustment of the chair, the placement of keyboard and mouse, desk height, footrest, lighting and glare are held in a single station record.
This page is written for the safety practitioner, HR lead and facilities manager who wants display screen workplaces and production stations recorded one by one.
Scope of the module
- Station identityThe location of the station, the department it belongs to, the worker who uses it or the number of users where it is shared across shifts, the type of station and the equipment on it stand at the head of the record.
- Checklist recordScreen height and distance, back and arm support of the chair, reach distance of keyboard and mouse, desk height and the knee clearance beneath it, footrest and document holder are marked item by item; adding a note and a photograph to each item is planned.
- Environmental itemsLighting level, glare on the screen, window orientation, noise at the workplace and air conditions are held in a separate part of the station record. These are items that can change independently of the equipment.
- Remote work self-assessmentLetting a person working away from the premises mark their own workplace against the same list, with the result landing in the same set of records, is part of the planned scope; the station at work and the one at home sit in the same ledger.
- Correction recordEvery item marked as unsuitable attaches to a correction line: what will be done, by whom, by when. When the correction closes, the station is marked again and the two states sit side by side.
Why each station is recorded separately
This section describes the question the module puts on record.
Workplace ergonomics is not a general rule but the state of individual places. Two desks in the same office may carry identical equipment, yet one has its back to the window and the other faces its screen towards it; they are not the same record.
So the measurement is taken per station and the record is written against the place, not the person. Even when the worker changes, the settings, lighting and equipment of the station stay where they are.
The checklists used in the field do the same: screen, seating, input devices, desk and surrounding conditions are marked under separate headings. The planned scope of the module is to take that marking off paper and turn it into a searchable record.

What this module does not cover
This is not an eye examination or a health assessment page. The record holds the measurement of the place and the worker's statement; the clinical side sits in health surveillance.
Periodic inspection of building lighting installations, electrical safety and fire items are separate subjects; the station record covers only the layout of the workplace.
